Migration FAQ's

Good news! Your website, email and domain DNS services are being moved to a new RapidNet hosted platform. This means you will receive greater reliability, more flexibility and many optional extras that were not previously available to you. Your services will be hosted in a state of the art data centre with uptime in the region of 99.9%. So, what do you have to do to ensure the move goes to plan?

Well, very little actually. For email, you take care of changing any settings required within Outlook or your other mail client and make sure that you have backup copies of your mailboxes – we do the rest! We’ll send you new technical details such as usernames and passwords that you’ll need to know.

Why are you moving my services to a new platform?
We recognise that our customers are relying increasingly on their hosted services and require more functionality too. We realised that the only way we can improve our services and reliability was to invest in a project to move to a new hosted platform.

Will I receive any loss of service during the migration?
It’s unlikely. Although there are changes that you will need to make to your system, all email and web traffic will continue to flow to the new system. You will of course need to ensure that your backups are up to date, which is common best practice anyway.

How do I transfer my emails from the old system to the new system?
If you use an email client such as Outlook, then you won’t have to do anything since your emails are stored on your computer. If you have been using webmail and don’t have a copy of your mail stored on your computer, then you will need to follow some basic steps to keep your mail. This will require setting up a new email account within Outlook or a similar program, connecting to your existing mailbox and downloading all of your emails, then connecting to the new mailbox and simply dragging your old emails across to the new Inbox. Feel free to call us for any advice or assistance.

Will my website become faster and more stable?
Yes. Quite simply our new servers are faster and more reliable, and are also housed in a state of the art data centre with Enterprise Class security and redundancy in place. Web servers are connected to multiple diversely routed connections which are directly connected to the Internet backbone.

Will I receive new details?
Yes. You should have received your new login names and passwords in the post. This applies to web space, FTP, email accounts and other services such as databases and SSH if you have them.

Will the cost change?
No. We have frozen the cost of your service and will not be increasing the price to you. Even though you may be receiving more services than you were previously, the cost will not go up.
